After Surgery Pet Care
What to expect and how to care for your pet in the days following a PHS clinic procedure.
- Your pet may be sleepy for the rest of the day — keep them in a quiet, protected, dry area. Not in sand.
- Keep the incision clean and dry. Check it daily. If the area becomes red, swollen, or begins to drain, call the vet immediately.
- Don’t force your pet to eat or drink on pickup day. Offer a small amount of food and plenty of water. Resume normal diet the day after surgery.
- No exercise for at least two days. No stairs for two days.
- No swimming for 10 days after surgery.
- Give any prescribed medication exactly as instructed.
- Your pet will recover in its own time — if you have any concerns, call the vet.
